The Tide

If you can’t read it it swoops in on you. It gathers you, drags you out into billowing waters and pummels you with waves that come from so many different directions you cannot decipher what direction is up. Where to go to breathe. Surrounded by water, gasping for air, your body tumbles and jerks up, down, sideways, and all over. The harder you fight against it, the less control you have. You panic and try to find a way to surface, to get just one sufficient breath…then you realize you have to let go, let IT carry you and stop fighting. When you give in to what is stronger than you, it will take you where you need to be. If trust that the tide will carry you, you’ll end up where you should be. Back on shore.

Everybody is a genius.
but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing it is stupid.

I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood.

The sounds you make are the soundtrack to my mornings and I wish I had a million miniature microphones placed around your body at all times. I would record you in pieces and compose you in whole.

I would secretly and silently slip into the song a few minor grace notes that would always say to you, “I am here, and I will be here.”
